Sustainability is not a static state

Sustainability is not a static state. We cannot “achieve” it someday like winning a race. It is ephemeral and we must constantly pursue it. We are a creative, dynamic species and our persistence with technological advancement will always act to disrupt whatever balance we momentarily achieve.
Our sustainability is evolutionary.

We must be responsive and maintain capacity to respond as we constantly meet the limits of the constraints that frame progress.

🌳 Sustainability in energy is an economic and environmental position where we must find solutions that avoid hitting the limits to the point at which civilisation collapses or cannot progress.

🧲 Physics mean we cannot rely on fragile infrastructure managing potentially catastrophic fuels.

⚙️ Productivity means we cannot return to single horsepower.

💲 Cost means we cannot bring to market energy solutions that cripple the country’s financial capacity to actually turn on a light.

Like trade between tribes, trading in energy between our neighbours is more efficient than self-sufficiency.

Systems such as the energy network is an essential infrastructure that we must continue to optimise in order to realise the capabilities of our technology and resources.
